Cosmetic Dentistry

The wide range of methods available today makes it possible to change the shape, colour, and position of the teeth – and above all, to change the smile.

Everyday habits such as drinking coffee or tea, or smoking, cause deep staining that ordinary brushing cannot remove. Using off-the-shelf abrasive whitening pastes can be risky and may lead to enamel wear (abrasion). At the practice we offer professional methods that allow a safe, controlled improvement in tooth colour.

As part of aesthetic procedures we carry out treatments such as ceramic veneers, composite restorations, and professional in-office and take-home whitening. Every aesthetic-dentistry procedure is planned individually, taking into account the patient’s facial features and natural anatomical conditions.

Take-home tray whitening begins with taking impressions to make a whitening tray. This tray is made individually for each patient. At the next visit, the patient receives a whitening gel, which should be applied to the tray and worn overnight or during the day, depending on the instructions given. The dentist explains how to apply the gel to the trays and how long to wear them. Note that existing prosthetic restorations and fillings will not change colour along with natural teeth. If needed, once the new tooth colour has stabilised, these can be replaced with lighter-shade restorations.

Frequently asked questions

1. When can teeth whitening be carried out?

Teeth whitening can be carried out for most patients, but it requires a prior, detailed dental assessment. A key condition is a completely healthy, fully treated mouth. Before starting the procedure, the dentist must rule out, among other things, the presence of untreated decay, leaking fillings, and gum inflammation. Having a professional hygiene treatment (removal of tartar and deposits) beforehand is also an absolute requirement.

The main contraindications to the procedure are:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Age under 16 (or, in some cases, under 18).
  • Severe tooth sensitivity.
  • Allergy to any ingredient of the whitening product.

Both options allow correction of tooth shape and colour, but they differ in the material used, durability, the technology involved, and aesthetics:

  • Composite veneer: made from a polymer (composite) material. It’s characterised by a faster turnaround (often completed in a single visit) and a lower initial price. However, composite can, over time, become naturally duller and absorb pigments from food and drink (e.g. coffee, wine). To maintain a satisfying result, regular check-up visits are needed, along with professional refreshing and polishing of the material.
  • Porcelain (ceramic) veneer: a long-term restoration, designed individually and made in a dental laboratory, with a highly aesthetic result. Porcelain has exceptional optical stability. it beautifully mimics the translucency and structure of natural enamel. This material shows very high resistance to staining and wear, allowing a highly aesthetic, long-lasting result without the need for frequent surface refreshing.

Before deciding on veneers, it’s necessary to carry out a full course of treatment (sanitation) of the mouth and a detailed analysis of the bite (occlusal conditions).

Bonding is a modern, minimally invasive method of aesthetically rebuilding teeth using advanced composite materials. The procedure involves micro-retentive preparation of the enamel surface (without needing to aggressively grind it down), and the precise, layered application of composite, which the dentist shapes directly in the patient’s mouth to match the anatomical shape and colour of the neighbouring teeth.

Bonding is most often used to:

  • Close gaps between teeth (e.g. a diastema).
  • Correct tooth shape (e.g. lengthening, widening, or correcting asymmetry).
  • Rebuild small chips or broken fragments of a tooth’s crown.
  • Mask permanent, localised enamel staining.
